She’s No Doll, She’s a Woman is about recognizing, with appreciation, the indispensable significance and depth women have in our lives. This is underscored by stating they are not dolls, things or property.

At about six years of age, Marshall first fixed his eyes on a piano. Sophisticated Singer/Songwriter Jeffrey Gaines Set to Perform Two Intimate New York Area Shows

Soulful Troubadour Bringing His Exceptional Talents Back to The Big Apple

Jeffrey Gaines has been heralded for his soul-searching lyrics and his powerful live performances. With only his voice and a guitar for accompaniment, Gaines has earned a reputation as a captivating performer, entertaining his audiences worldwide. Perhaps most widely recognized for his deeply felt interpretation of Peter Gabriel’s classic hit “In Your Eyes”, the soulful singer and sophisticated songwriter brings his unique talents to New York, first out to the Hamptons on Long Island this October and then on to New York City in November, 2022.

“The biggest pleasure I derive from this is playing live,” Gaines notes. “There’s nothing more satisfying for me than a good live gig.  I’m in control, but the audience can take it to a place that’s higher than I can imagine. When I show up for a live gig, I don’t need much, there’s no rider. It’s just, turn it on, let the audience in, and we’ll do the rest. It’s the best job anyone could ever have.”

Jeffrey also recently re-released two poignant selections from his self-titled debut, the impactful “Choices” and “Why?,” which deal with the controversial subject matter of abortion and gun rights, respectively – only a few weeks after the Supreme Court revoked the rights for American citizens to choose, and just days after the 356th (at the time of printing) mass shooting in the U.S. happened in 2022.

Check out the new recordings of “Why?” and “Choices

Gaines has been pursuing musical transcendence for much of his life. Raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, by soul-music-loving parents, he began his musical life playing guitar in local cover combos, before his songwriting muse became too insistent to ignore. He soon landed his first record deal shortly after graduating from high school, and in 1992 released his widely acclaimed debut album Jeffrey Gaines. The eponymous disc won massive amounts of critical and audience acclaim, spawning the hit “Hero in Me.” Somewhat Slightly Dazed (1994) and Galore (1998) further expanded his audience. Interview magazine described Gaines’ work as “soul-searching” and “refreshingly free of jargon, sentiment or cliché.”

In 2001, Gaines’ release Always Be yielded a surprise hit in his deeply felt interpretation of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”;  2003’s Toward the Sun attracted even more critical accolades, with Mojo praising the “soul-folkie’s sexy growl” and The Boston Globe declaring that “Gaines’ soulful, wounded vocals make a case for his being one of pop’s finest singers.” Toward the Sun was followed by a pair of live albums, the 2004 CD/DVD Jeffrey Gaines Live and 2012’s Live in Europe, which reflected the deep and abiding rapport that Gaines has with his fans. In 2018, Gaines released his eighth studio album, Alright. The album was  recorded in Los Angeles with Chris Price, Val McCallum and Elvis Costello’s Imposters, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher.

With more than a quarter-century of recording and performing under his belt, Jeffrey Gaines is enjoying life and music more than ever.  “Nowadays, I know what the job is about so there’s nothing to stress about,” he says. “I know that there’s people out there who want it, so I have the opportunity to extend their experience. I guess I could lay my albums all out and see that they tell a story, but personally I prefer to keep looking forward.”

Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night have created a new genre of music for all ages, inspired by many melodies of the Renaissance period, and “Blackmoreized” into contemporary music. This is the sound of Blackmore’s Night.

In 1997, Blackmore’s Night released their debut CD, Shadow of the Moon, which immediately went gold in Japan and earned awards worldwide. Meanwhile, their devoted fan base is growing exponentially as the band has created a genre of music for all ages. From grandparents to children, everyone has their medieval mood music and gypsy dances. Clearly the music of Blackmore’s Night connects with fans on a deep level, allowing them to experience an entirely different era of merriment.

At the helm of this band, is award winning lyricist and vocalist, Candice Night, who not only contributes her unique, entrancing vocals, but deftly navigates seven medieval woodwinds, including chanters, shawms, pennywhistles and recorders. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and celebrated guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore, who traverses between acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, mandola and hurdy gurdy. Further enhancing the band’s inspired sound are keyboardist/back-up vocalist Bard David, Violinist, Scarlett Fiddler, back up vocalist/rhythm guitar, Lady Jessie , bassist/rhythmic guitarist Earl Grey, and percussionist Troubadour of Aberdeen. With lyrics penned by Night, the collective embraces the aura of the old world inn, from madrigals and ballads to good old fashioned Renaissance-inspired pub songs.

Additionally, every one of Blackmore’s Night’s studio CD (11 in total) has debuted in the top 2 of the Billboard charts, many of which entered or remained at the number 1 spot. They have earned Awards such as “Best Album of the Year”, “Best Vocal Album of the Year” and their sold-out concerts in castles and UNESCO sites worldwide are filled with thousands of fans dressed in Renaissance garb, dancing and singing as if time stood still. No clocks…no pressure…just the gaiety and camaraderie of a medieval pub. Everyone joins in and loses their stress in the music.

Industrial Nu-Goth Newcomer Staytus Releases Debut Album Disease of the Mind

Following the release of several singles, Staytus is proud to present Disease of the Mind, her debut album, available now on all the major services.

LISTEN TO STAYTUS

With an aggressive industrial metal sound that would make fans of genre heavyweights like Nine Inch Nails, Odonis Odonis, Black Dresses, Orgy, Static-X and God Lives Underwater proud, Staytus is constantly challenging the norm, with a nod to what has come before, while staying truly original and exciting in her delightfully destructive delivery.

“For those who haven’t listened to my music before, I can describe it as nu-goth, which borrows elements from industrial rock and grunge rock. It’s a journey that takes you into the mind of somebody struggling with mental illness.” – Staytus

Some select cuts from the record include the rollicking “Dreams From Hell”, about which Staytus remarked, “It’s a journey of experiencing abuse over and over again. The meaning of the song is about my struggles with PTSD and the symptoms that can come with it, such as intrusive/ruminating thoughts and self-harm. It’s like an endless cycle of remembering who hurt you. Listen to my lyrics, “I stay awake, I cannot take it anymore;” the conceptual, “A crooked sense of forgiveness;” and the plea of self-realization, “Maybe it’s time to wake up…”

WATCH: Dreams From Hell Video

Though we can all agree that home-recording gear is a wonderful thing, we shouldn’t forget how rare and special it is when artists blossom into full-blown producers by their own means. Disease of the Mind, the riveting full-length debut from industrial metal upstart Sam Grundemann—AKA Staytus—reminds us that some people are born with a knack for sculpting sound deep in their bones.

Since the age of 15, the Scottsdale, AZ-based multi-instrumentalist/songwriter has steeped herself in writing and recording her material, posting individual tracks while acquiring a string of degrees and certifications in audio production. Being patient and deliberate, however, has paid off—with Disease of the Mind, Staytus has crafted a lavishly detailed opus that envelops the senses as it pulls the listeners into its own sonic universe.

Aspiring to the wide-angle scope of genre-defining albums like Nine Inch Nails’ The Downward Spiral, Ministry’s Filth Pig and God Lives Underwater’s Life in the So-Called Space Age, Staytus leaves her mark on the industrial metal paradigm with an utterly distinctive approach to production and songcraft that reflects the ten years she’s spent honing her style in both domains.

“I had to write ‘Disease of The Mind’ to cope with my mental health struggles. I truly felt like a broken, fallen angel when I composed this album. Acknowledging your feelings of hurt, anger, and despair can help you move through them to find hope and relief.” – Staytus

Disease of the Mind also marries the classic palette of serrated guitars and electronic beats to contemporary concerns like relationship trauma, mental health, and the struggle of navigating a world based on “neurotypical” standards—all informed by the immersive audio-visual sensibility of gaming culture. As an avid fan of video games like Portal, Left 4 Dead, and Half-Life, Staytus channels the influence of game developers like Will Wright, Maxis, and Valve as much as she takes after other musicians. (The moniker Staytus, in fact, comes from the game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.)

But as much as tracks like “Absolute Terror” and “Decay” percolate with the angst of early adulthood, with their sawblade-like distorted guitars wailing away in the mix, Grundemann has a most elegant touch when it comes to creating space in her music (captured this time with mixing assistance courtesy of Grammy-nominated producer Adam W. Berg). Yes, some of these songs get loud, but what stands out the most is her incomparable finesse.

On Disease of the Mind, the various sonic elements inter-weave like the holographic 3D-panel displays depicted in futuristic films like Prometheus and the anime classic Ghost in the Shell. And rather than simply hit you over the head with untempered rage, Disease of the Mind takes your breath away with a rare self-awareness that only enhances its raw expressions of despair. As a result, the music never completely expunges the beauty from its heart of darkness.

There’s an inherent romance to the way Grundemann arranges each aspect of a song with loving care—polishing or abrading the surfaces of her sonic architecture as she sees fit. And let’s not forget that Staytus might as well be synonymous with infectious dance grooves. On tracks like “Arrhythmia,” “Dreams from Hell”, “An Echo in Space” and “Part of Me”, Disease of the Mind matches the sting of lingering post-traumatic distress with a life-affirming sensuality.

On the album cover, a black-winged Staytus is shown covering her face with her hands, a dragon adorning each sleeve. This wasn’t simply a cosmetic wardrobe choice—for her, the archetypal symbol of the dragon represents something deeply powerful and, in its own way, real. Likewise, as you find yourself unable to resist moving your limbs as Disease of the Mind unfolds, an insistent shade of regeneration comes to life within the music.

“I don’t know what the hell I’ve been through,” Grundemann sings on album closer “Really Gone.” Maybe so, but what we do know is that what Disease of the Mind conveys most is resilience, as well as the arrival of a vital new presence on the industrial metal landscape.

Disease Of The Mind is performed, written, and produced by Staytus with final mixing/mastering by Adam W. Berg, Unity/Manifest Studios, Santa Monica, CA.

Quotes from the Producers and other integral crew

“We loved being a part of this special project. We can’t wait to sit on the edge of our seats and see the multi -talented cast under Maria’s vision bring this psychological thriller to life on the screen.” Liz Lewis – Liz Lewis Casting Partners

“The Legend of Lake Ronkonkoma is a beautiful and mystical film that entertains and reminds us that so much of the land we live on, do business on and profit from was taken from Native Americans. I personally and professionally, as the Founder of NewYorkRep, whose mission is: to inspire and compel social change . . to illuminate ethical questions by telling stories that expose our humanity . . all through provocative art that promotes empathy, compassion and inclusion, am proud to be part of this film.” Gale Waxenberg – Producer, Founding Executive Director NewYorkRep

“I am in awe of Maria’s work as an independent filmmaker, and the incredible grit & determination she has to make it happen. Upon first reading the script, it was clear what a well constructed and haunting story she had created. It’s Inspiring to see an artist step up as an ally to the indigenous people to whom the land where she herself grew up belongs. I know she will honor the story, as a powerful female voice in independent film.“ Jay Klaitz – Producer, Board Member NewYorkRep

“When I heard about the concept, read the script and knew that Maria Capp was leading this project, I asked how I can be involved. I’ve known Maria for many years and everything she touches has so much passion behind it… and it’s always successful!” Donna Drake – Producer, Drake Media Network, Drake Media Studios, The Donna Drake Show

“While indigenous self-representation is the ultimate goal, I believe that it is our duty to be present when non-natives attempt to depict indigenous culture. Throughout most of American history, we have been intentionally left out of this process. So when producers like Maria Capp invite us to represent ourselves with authenticity, we must take this as a micro-opportunity for self-representation that serves to pave a way for the tapestry of our 578-plus American Indian cultures to be seen and included” Dyani Brown – Consulting Producer
