Winning a second consecutive Long Island Blues Society’s Regional Challenge, The Johnny Mac Band Bring Their Unique Blend of Blues/R&B/Funk & Reggae to a String of Upcoming Shows Including IBC Fundraisers at Big Daddy’s Restaurant in Massapequa, Patchogue’s Bobbique, The Mouse Trap Cafe in Amityville, and MORE

December, 2016 (Long Island, NY) — Touting an incredible lineup of seasoned musicians and bringing a fun, energetic, and powerful sound to the Long Island and greater NY music scene, The Johnny Mac Band is set to kick off an outstanding run of live dates as they get ready to take their show on the road to the 33rd Annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee January 31st – February 4th! (Full List of Fundraiser Shows Below)

The band features the vocal styles and guitar work of Mohair Sam Wylie, a 79 year old blues-man from Badin, North Carolina, and the one and only Johnny Mac- a veteran of the New York circuit. Stinging guitars and fiery solos bookend soulful voices that are supported by the rock-solid rhythm section of Joe Roberts on keyboards, Dave Ice on bass and Raymond Hauck on drums. The subtle influence of BB King, Ray Charles and others inform the band’s original music which is distinctly their own. The warmth of their sound has often been often described as…”Comfort Music for the Soul”.

With the nucleus of the band originating in 1986 when Johnny formed “Undercover Funk” playing various styles including the blues with Mohair Sam and appearing on various stages from headlining the University of Albany’s “Mayfest” to performing with Percy Sledge- a new gig on the books in 2012 became the springboard to greatness. With no one available to play, Johnny recruited Dave and Ray to cover the date and realized he had the ingredients for an outstanding rhythm section. In early 2016 Joe Roberts was asked to sit in for number of dates. The added chemistry of his keyboard and vocal performance proving to be just the right fit- launched a new chapter in the annals of the Johnny Mac Band.

On September 20, 2015 the band won the Long Island Blues Society’s Blues Challenge and represented Long Island for the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis in January of 2016. On September 10, 2016 they were victorious once again and will be returning to Memphis this January, 2017!

The International Blues Challenge is a world-class music showcase that takes place annually in Memphis. Several locations in the Beale Street Historic District turn into music venues as talented bands, solo acts and duos show off their chops. Owltainment Founders Mingda Dong and Yuanyuan Chen Invited to Participate in Annual Award Celebration of The Chinese Cultural Foundation

Aspiring NYU Graduates Dedicated to Bridging the Gap Between U.S. and Chinese Film Industries Will Present Clip of their Production “Enduring Legacy – China Story”

New York, NY (December, 2016) — Having been very busy as of late helping to produce films in both China and the United States–like their recent feature “Generals of the Yang Family” (in partnership between Tencent and China’s Deadwood Studio)–NY based film company Owltainment was recently invited by Elizabeth B. Wang, President of the Chinese Cultural Foundation, to participate in this year’s Annual Award Celebration of the Chinese Cultural Foundation on Wednesday, December 14th at Harvard Club of New York City (35 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036)! The company will be premiering a clip from their newest production “Enduring Legacy – China Story” among a cavalcade of attendees including Chairman of the Chinese Cultural Foundation Maurice R. Greenberg along with 2016 Honorees John A. Catsimatidis and China Construction America Chairman Ning Yuan.

Owltainment was founded by Yuanyuan Chen and Mingda Dong, two New York University students who decided to use their creative talents to–among many others–help create daring and unique new concepts. The company uses innovative ideas such as cell phone filmmaking, showing others with or without a film production background how to share their stories with the “camera” in their pocket. In addition to this creative concept, Owltainment also produces features and documentaries with regular cameras, teaming up with specialists. And while filmmaking has been a hot topic in both the U.S. and China for many years, Owltainment is continuing to help bring the two industries closer together.

With a versatile approach, helping to introduce American film scholars to China and hosting lectures and seminars for Chinese students and filmmakers, the company has been taking a head-on approach to film education. As film festival organizers they continually host, support, and implement activities (like the Honor Festival) for Film Festivals both in the U.S. and China.

The Chinese Cultural Foundation is a New York based 501(C)(3) philanthropic organization, and its mission is to promote and share the understanding of Chinese culture in the U.S. and around the world.  CCF provides the highest levels of Chinese culture to the global community and is an important cultural platform to bring together Chinese and other global world leaders. Since its founding in 2003, CCF has organized a series of cultural and educational programs at many prestigious global gatherings, including the First World Cultural Summit at the Palace of Versailles in France, the World Economic Forum – China Business Summit in Beijing, the Institutional Investor – China Investment Forum in New York City, the China – U.S. Business Forum at the Great Hall of the People, and special events at the United Nations, the National Arts Club, the Harvard Club, Bank of China, Citibank, and other cultural, business, government and academic venues throughout the world.

Uncle Frank makes the best kind of music…. music with soul, funk, rage and love! The band, made up of multi-instrumentalists and producers Frank Benbini (also one third of The Fun Lovin’ Criminals) & Naim Cortazzi, the band has garnered National Radio plays from Huey Morgan on BBC6 Music and BBC Radio 2 and A-listed on Regional Radio throughout the UK. Already having made waves in 2016 with features in The Sun, Spindle Magazine, Music-News.com and The Daily Star, Uncle Frank took the last ever CMJ Music Festival by storm in October 2015 at Fat Baby in New York described as ‘The best Band at CMJ without a doubt’ by Spindle Magazine.

Touring with the legendary UB40 in America, Frank and Naim duetted with Ali Campbell and UB40 at New Jersey’s Performing Arts Centre singing a reggae version Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ which is on the Radio Riddler album ‘Purple Reggae’ (produced by Frank and Fast from FLC) and featuring vocals from Ali Campbell, Sinead O’Connor, Suggs from Madness, Citizen Cope and Beverley Knight.

The band’s label debut album ‘SMILES FOR MILES’ released in May 2104 was Best described by Penny Black Music- ‘It is proving impossible to keep this out of my CD player at the moment. A fantastic album’. The pair’s love of music has led them to create an album that is an eclectic mix of soul, pop, jazz, funk, old-school hip hop and easy listening. Taking three-months to record ‘Smiles for Miles’ in their home studio, Benbini and Cortazzi arranged, played the majority of instruments themselves, and engineered the whole album.

Uncle Frank were signed to an unprecedented 3 album deal in 2013 by MITA Records, and their first single ‘STEP INTO MY ROOM’ was supported by an innovative tour of fans houses, performing concerts in their living rooms. This was featured by BBC 1 Television Evening News which reached an audience of 600,000 viewers. The band’s second single ‘SOMETHIN’ SOMETHIN’ accompanied by a robot animation video was featured by The Daily Express, saying “Frank Benbini and Naim Cortazzi, have spent years making music and their remarkable output ranges from soul to funk and old-school hip hop”. They then embarked upon a lengthy acoustic tour of universities in The Coffee House Sessions picking up new fans and playlists on the way. The Gay Times even premiered the Flashdance inspired video for ‘DANCE INSTRUCTOR’, which hit over 100,000 views on YouTube.

“The world needs this kind of music – because it’s real and self-made, feel-good and original.”- Uncle Frank

The band’s self produced music is mixed by Grammy Award winning mixer and producer Tim Latham (Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The Rolling Stones and Erykah Badu). Benbini first met Latham during a Lou Reed session at Quad Studios in New York. They immediately hit it off, and when it came to mixing the Uncle Frank album, Latham believed in the project so much, he committed to it before the band even secured a record deal.

Now, with brand new remixes of ‘MAXIMUM RESPECT’ set to hit the airwaves on December 9th- you’ll get to hear how UK producer/composer/remixer Arlen Figgis, reggae/dub collective Radio Riddler, DJ Switchblade and more put their own spin on the smooth, funky, 80’s inspired original track!
