Oogee Wawa to Rock The Space at Westbury with British Roots Reggae Legends Steel Pulse Thursday, April 14th

After Tearing Up The Gramercy Theater Stage in NYC, Long Island’s Premiere Alternative Reggae / Hip-hop Group will Join One of Bob Marley’s Favorites

Westbury, NY (March, 2016) — Having just turned heads yet again, lighting up the stage at NYC’s Gramercy Theatre with Common Kings on March 9th, Long Island’s Oogee Wawa – who made history headlining The Paramount in Huntington, NY to a roaring crowd of over 1,200 in late September 2015 as the first unsigned headliners to rock the venue and has been gaining momentum hitting bigger venues all over the U.S. – is at it again, this time taking the stage at The Space at Westbury Thursday, April 14th with none other than The First Non-Jamaican Act to Win Grammy Award for “Best Reggae Album”- Birmingham, U.K.’s own Steel Pulse!

With their recent return from the Island Hopper Tour which saw them hit stops in Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands spreading their Hip-hop infused reggae vibes along the way, 2016 has been an exciting year for the band. Having played in the past with the likes of Slightly Stoopid, SOJA, Sublime with Rome, The Dirty Heads, The Wailers, Badfish, Ballyhoo!, Passafire, rocking the 2015 Beer Fields Craft Beer & Music Festival alongside Collie Buddz, and hitting the road with a touring schedule of over 200 shows a year, Oogee released their second LP “More Sand Than Money” in April of 2015. After rocking with 311, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and The Green at The Great South Bay Music Festival this past July and the Long Beach International Film Festival’s “Taste On the Beach” in August, the band also filmed a LIVE taping of “Rick’s Rising Stars”  at Revolution Bar & Music Hall which aired on Verizon Fios Channel 1! Continuing with more Long Island performances and a stop over in Ocean City, MD in early September, the band filmed an episode of “Live It Up!” with Donna Drake at IndiMusic TV  Studios and did an interview with Orlando at 94.3 The Shark promoting their Paramount headliner, and even rocked NYC’s famed The Bitter End in December.

With a recent endorsement from Korg USA and a new video for hit single “Feelin’ Alive Today” released via Raised Fist Propaganda, the band that seems to make the live music stage a second home still has a ton in store!

Before officially starting Oogee Wawa- MC Jesse Lee Roenbeck of Centereach, JP Aceto on guitar and vocals of Baiting Hollow, Chad Chadwick on bass of Selden, and Nick Loiodice on drums and vocals of Smithtown were friends just messing around playing the bar scene so many Long Island musicians know and clamor to on nights and weekends to get a little bit of that adrenaline pumping, big-or-small crowd cheering rush that comes with performing live. Forming in 2008, the band began playing consistent shows to ever-growing crowds before the release of their first LP- 2012’s “Ride Waves”, and as their momentum got going they quickly became the island’s in-demand alternative reggae act from Long Beach to Montauk.

Garnering praise from the likes of  Long Island Press, Chilled Magazine, I Am Entertainment Magazine, Arena.com, and West Coast Reggae-Rock-Acoustic hotspot ThePier.org who stated on their recent release “Oogee Wawa’s sophomore release is a good one, and they obviously have the potential to become a breakout band in the industry”, Oogee began touring Nationally and spreading their good vibes on both East and West Coasts. In an interview with the Long Island Pulse, the band has aid of themselves “We have gotten a lot of love in the rising reggae rock scene and we take a lot of pride in that. We are working very hard to build up this family of bands from all over the East Coast”. A recent Anti-Pitchfork feature even stated “Not only have Oogee Wawa tapped into something the majority of New Yorkers seem to like, they are hard working players, performing every week and pumping out new material faster than anyone else”.

As Creative Control Magazine recently put it- “To hold a successful party, you need loud, invigorating music that will fulfill the host’s one requirement: to keep the party going all night long. To complete this mission, there’s no better band than Oogee Wawa”. Its safe to say that they accomplished this mission a few times over with their headlining debut at The Paramount as the first unsigned act, potentially paving the way for future independent artists/bands to make the stride! And as their tour schedule brings them more momentum in these Winter and upcoming Spring 2016 months, it seems Oogee Wawa will continue to break new ground as they perform for bigger and bigger audiences.

For your chance to check out the band that’s gearing up for a monumentous Spring & Summer 2016, catch them live with Steel Pulse on Thursday, April 14th The Space at Westbury- 250 Post Ave, Westbury, NY 11590!

Gold Coast Arts Center’s 4th Annual “Your Big Break” Final Round Set For Saturday, April 2nd

With Incredible Performances in the Semifinals, 3 Artists/Bands Remain with Mentors Stepping in to Help them Hone their Craft

Great Neck, NY (March, 2016) —  With the Semifinals now out of the way, the Gold Coast Arts Center and Love Revolution Org’s search for the next big music star is getting closer to its culmination as the 4th Annual  “Your Big Break” contest heads into its FINAL ROUND! Bringing some of the best New York talent to the forefront, the rousing performances March 12th narrowed down just three remaining performers/groups: Matt Grabowski, Jaclyn Manfredi, and the Frankel Sisters! Now, as they get ready to bring all their hard work to fruition for the conclusion of this year’s competition, they’ll be joined by returning mentors- singer/songwriter Ryan Star and John Hampson of Nine Days, along with songwriter/producer Ido Zmishlany and a Headlining performance by past finalists Zofolk on Saturday, April 2nd!

While all of the semifinalists brought their extraordinary talents to the stage earlier this month, including Taylor Hogan, The Days Beneath Us, and Zero Gas- the judges (who include Neil Rubenstein, the manager of The Emporium music venue in Patchogue, Chris Pati of IndiMusic TV, Lou Plaia from Reverbnation.com, Guy Brogna from All Music Inc., and Jerry Lembo– a music industry consultant who has worked with Grammy Award-Winning entertainers) ultimately made their final eliminations to the latter half.

Now, with 3 artists/bands remaining, mentors Star (paired with Jaclyn Manfredi), Hampson (paired with the Frankel Sisters), and Zmishlany (paired with Matt Grabowski) will use their experience as chart-topping singer/songwriters and producers to help each of their mentees use all the tools necessary to craft a well-rounded, quality final performance! Only ONE, however, will receive the ultimate privilege of being crowned the “Next big thing” to come out of New York, along with a ton of great prizes.

This year’s prizes include the chance to open up for a national act at The Emporium, recording time at IndiMusic Studios, a feature on Reverbnation.com, musical equipment from All Music Inc. and ZOOM North America, PR and social media campaigns from Rick Eberle Agency, and more to be announced. Come down to the show and network with some of the best and brightest people in the music business because–along with the judges–the audience have a vote in determining this year’s winner!

There is another new twist this year as well- each artist will perform one song written by Glenn Frey of The Eagles and one song by David Bowie in honor of the two Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famers who recently passed.

The Arts Center is transformed into the GOLD COAST ACOUSTIC CAFÉ once a month, a music venue that showcases local up-and-coming talent as well as established music acts. With its black box theater performance space and a lounge in the art gallery, the GOLD COAST ACOUSTIC CAFÉ is one of the few small music venues around which makes for a special and intimate atmosphere for artists and audience alike, especially during YOUR BIG BREAK- a competition whose past winners include semifinals headliners Youth Be Told and Katie Zimmer, round 2 headliner Annika, as well as finalists SEE and Zofolk who have gone on to work with major producers, managers and agents! Past artists who have performed in the headline slots have included: Iridesense, John Hampson of Nine Days, The Brady Brothers, and Sir Cadian Rhythm – all of whom are local musicians who’ve had major success in the industry, with hopes to further inspire the next generation of New York stars presented each year.

So get ready, as the Gold Coast Arts Center and Love Revolution Org’s 4th Annual “Your Big Break” Finals bring an immense amount of talent once again to the Gold Coast Acoustic Cafe, 113 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, NY, on Saturday, April 2nd!

Mark Newman at BB Kings tomorrow, Singer/Songwriter and Sideman Continues to Rock with Upcoming Performances

Having Performed Alongside Greats From Sting to Elvis Costello and John Oates (Hall & Oates) and Opening for Don Felder of The Eagles as well as Bluesman Delbert McClinton in the Last Year, He’ll Move Forward with More Great Live Shows in Coming Weeks

March, 2016 (New York, NY) — Bringing tones of familiarity yet originality to his new EP “Brussels”–out last March 2015 on Danal Music and on iTunes and CD Baby–singer/songwriter Mark Newman is continuing to make his mark on both East and West Coasts and internationally. But unlike his past work as sideman to so many soul, blues, and rock greats of our time like John Oates (Hall and Oates), Jim McCarty (The Yardbirds), Willy DeVille, Sam The Sham, and Sam Moore; he’s played a ton of exciting solo and full-band showcases recently, notably NYC’s B.B. King’s for the Delbert McClinton Birthday Show, The Space at Westbury opening for the one and only Don Felder, and The Blue Note in Tokyo, Japan! And with Spring 2016 rapidly approaching, he’s added a number of new dates to his lineup including tomorrow night Tuesday, March 22nd w/ Blues Guitarist Coco Montoya @ B.B. Kings Blues Club & Grill, New York, NY

A New York native, Newman’s musical prowess has taken him around the world several times over, playing with an eclectic mix of noted musical talents from Sting to Elvis Costello, and Travis Tritt as well as his own solo work. A multi stringsman, Mark has mastered electric/acoustic/lap steel guitar as well as the mandolin and dobro, and with a voice reminiscent of many rock and bluesmen before him- it has the familiarity of an old friend yet the power and soul of many of today’s rock, soul, folk and R&B icons. For over five years, Newman and fellow songwriter Naomi Margolin have run the “Music From the Hive”  Singer/Songwriter Series, and for the past two years- “The Original Music Series” for bands, in an attempt to keep original music alive on Long Island. Newman also records and produces local artists in the Long Island/NYC area.

He’s said of some of his mentors: “You’d have to be an idiot not to learn from the guys I’ve had the honor of playing with,” adding “Hey, Sam The Sham didn’t just write ‘Wooly Bully.’ He wrote some of the best blues songs I ever heard. And Sam Moore’s almost 80 yet sings like he’s 25. He taught me not to over-think, just open your mouth and let it go. I don’t know if I’ve even come close to doing this but what I do know is what I’ve learned from those three is invaluable.”

Having released “Walls of Jericho” in 2010, the album is filled with intricate guitar work and mixed with a plethora of sounds from hard rock to a lighter more Dylanesque folk tinge, but this style comes even more to the forefront on “Brussels”. The new live acoustic-driven EP packs a bluesy punch reminiscent of Clapton’s “Unplugged” album through both the guitar work and raw vocal power. On the first track “Mean Season (Lucille, Lucille)”, Newman bellows “I waited til’ dawn, see if the sun will shine when you’re gone // You turn away, I just can’t stay where I don’t belong” and like many early bluesmen before him, you can hear the soulful longing and strife in his voice. With the brilliant slide-guitar work in “Dead Man’s Shoes” we’re easily transported in our minds to the West in the era of outlaws and cowboy boots, and in “Must Be A Pony” reminded about the power of a child’s enthusiasm and the efforts not to lose it as time goes by.

Upcoming Shows:

Tuesday, March 22nd w/ Blues Guitarist Coco Montoya @ B.B. Kings Blues Club & Grill, New York, NY

Fri. April 1, 8:00 – Strand BBQ, Astoria

Tue. April 5, 9:00 – KJ Farrell’s, Bellmore – with Blue Velvo, Dave Diamond, Baker 8 https://www.facebook.com/events/1660943900794867/

Thu. April 21, 10:00 – Bar Louie, Commack https://www.facebook.com/events/602541093248532/

Wednesday, April 27th w/ Spuyten Duyvil & Friends Performing the Music of Linda Ronstandt @ Rockwood Music Hall- Stage 2, New York, NY

In an age of technology with the power of easy editing techniques at the touch of a button, it can be reassuring to know that a musician can still pack a punch with raw talent as a songwriter and overall accomplished performer, and Mark Newman’s live EP “Brussels” along with his carefully crafted live shows do just that.

You won’t want to miss this incredible performer and guitarist-at-large as he continues bringing his talents to the stage throughout 2016! To see for yourself, head to any one of his upcoming NY dates!
