With The Upcoming Release of Their LP “I Miss America”, The SoCal/Nashville Trio Fronted by Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter/Producer Joey Sykes Continues to Spread Good Vibes Through “Modern Vintage Country Rock”
With an upcoming album release still on the way, Country Rock trio Honey River are spreading “Peace, Love” to listeners nationwide! With AXS calling it “An infectiously harmonic track that calls for a simpler time in an ever-changing and volatile world” it truly is a heartfelt ballad that begs the question “Is it too much to ask for a little peace, love, and happiness?”.
HONEY RIVER was formed in 2017 by Joey Sykes, inspired by his many years of Nashville writing trips, and a love for such Country Rock legends, like The Eagles, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, and more recently, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, etc. Recent additions Jay Mags and Chris Vincent add their vocal and guitar talent, to make the HONEY RIVER sound.
Sykes has been amassing a large catalog of lyrically thoughtful, extremely hooky, relevant songs, such as “Peace, Love” including “Nobody Like Me”, “I Miss America”, and many more that have become their debut album soon to be released. These songs were written, both with some of Nashville’s “A-List” hit songwriters, and Joey Sykes alone, mainly in Nashville or Southern California. Sykes has the luxury of also being a producer, and owner of a recording studio.
Using classic instruments, such as Mandolin, Dobro, Pedal Steel, 12-string guitars, along with more commonly used piano, organ, real drums, plenty of Guitars (mostly played by Sykes), and lots of vocal harmonies, the sound can be enjoyed by a wide age range of music lovers- country or rock, anywhere from 18 to 80! The band also had the incredibly fortunate honor of having the late Tom Petty’s drummer Steve Ferrone play drums on a few songs. On working with Ferrone, Sykes said in a recent interview with Rock & Blues Muse “That was epic! To have one of my idols’ drummer spin one of my songs after a Tom Petty song and refer to me as his friend- woah! Love to Steve and miss Tom”.
On putting the group together, he says “The idea of Honey River from day-one was to have three guys who can all sing, write, play different instruments and who will share lead vocals during the set,” notes Sykes. “It’s kind of a modern-day Eagles/Tom Petty/CSNY fusion. There will also be plenty of harmony during the verses. I love lyrics, harmonies, melodies, and cool stringed instruments.”
With “Peace, Love” spreading over the airwaves, and their latest album “I Miss America” set to drop soon, you can certainly expect more from Honey River as they continue to bring their infectious blend of country and rock to new heights!
After 2017’s Debut “Face Down”, The Young Star Continues to Tap Into Deep and Dark Perspective Way Beyond Her Years and Sets Upcoming NY Show Dates Next Month
Following the successful release of 2017’s “Face Down” which Substream Magazine described as holding “Very heavy indie vibes!” and had The Daily Listening “Mesmerized for life” –Vaeda Blackis BACK with her latest single “Suicide Love” out Wednesday, October 10th! With a music video to follow Directed by James Morano with choreography by the Tony Nominated and Emmy Winning AC Ciulla, it will be a passionate visualization of being consumed by love and lost in emotion. As she gets ready to release it, she’ll also be performing live Headlining the Long Island Fall Festival October 7th and at NYC’s Arlene’s Grocery October 9th. (Details Below)
Raised in Centerport, NY, Vaeda Black is the pseudonym of 16 year old singer songwriter Celia Spero, a senior at both Harborfields HS and Long Island High School for the Arts. The most prominent thing you notice about Vaeda Black is her powerful stirring voice reminiscent of early soul, which is most unexpected. A masterful songwriter, Vaeda is able to tap into a profound and sometimes dark place and it’s certainly reflective in her music both lyrically and sonically. Live performances with her band display her ability to connect with audiences, a skill she’s developed from many years on the stage, having performed in musical theater productions starting at only 7yrs old. Currently training in Classical Voice in NYC, Black has participated in both the NYSSMA and SCMEA festivals annually and was selected as an Alto-1 and member of the All-State Treble Choir in both 2017 and 2018.
“One of 5 Female Powerhouse Artists to Watch in 2018”
Black is quite tenacious in her focus to remain artistically genuine, with lyrics that are both thought provoking and at times provocative. In a world that tends to speak about art in terms of genre, this can be somewhat problematic for artists that don’t exist in a box.
“When I write, I like to just start singing and writing down whatever the music makes me feel. When I wrote ‘Face Down’, I was singing along to the track and the words and melody flowed perfectly with the vibes the music was giving me. The song is about accepting your deep dark desires and that they’re not something to be ashamed of, because everyone has them. I wanted this song to be directed at the listener like I’m speaking to them. A quiet reassurance that whatever thoughts you’re having or whatever you’re going through mentally isn’t something to hide, but is something to embrace. When I listen to this song it makes me feel at ease. I think it was subconsciously inspired by the things that I’m afraid of and what I need to accept about myself. Writing this song brought me to a place that I’m afraid to go to sometimes, but being able to put out a record that is so real to me set me free. It’s amazing how one song can change a person.”
Now, with “Suicide Love” on the way and TWO chances to see her LIVE in NY this October, fans can catch more of the rising star that is Vaeda Black.

More About Mick Rock:
Legendary rock photographer Mick Rock is often referred to as ‘The Man Who Shot the Seventies’, for his iconic images of Syd Barrett (Pink Floyd), David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Queen, the Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Blondie, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and so much more. London born, he has resided in New York for the past 35 years. He has shot over 100 album covers.
But he in reality never shopped photographing and image making. His recent subjects include Snoop Dogg, Father John Misty, Lenny Kravitz , Janelle Monae, Jimmy Fallon, The Black Keys, Karen O, Ellie Goulding, Alicia Keys, Michael Buble, Daft Punk, Perry Farrell, Motley Crue, TV On The Radio, Pharrell, Josh Groban, Flaming Lips, Nas, Rufus Wainwright, Kings of Leon, R. Kelly, The Black Lips , Queens of The Stone Age, and the list goes on.
Mick Rock was instrumental in creating many key rock ‘n’ roll images, such as album covers for Syd Barrett’s “Madcap Laughs”, Lou Reed’s “Transformer” and “Coney Island Baby”, Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll”, among many others. He was the chief photographer on the films “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” and “Shortbus”. He recently shot special stills for the new TV version of Rocky Horror, featuring the transgender actress Laverne Cox as Frank N. Furter. He also produced and directed the seminal music videos for Bowie: “John, I’m Only Dancing”, “Jean Genie”, “Space Oddity”, and “Life On Mars”.
His latest publication “The Rise of David Bowie 1972-1973” (with David Bowie), (Taschen Books, published September 2015): a spectacular limited edition co-signed with Bowie, sold out just before David’s death. It was Taschen’s fastest-ever selling limited edition publication. He is currently promoting Bowie’s trade edition (which will be signed on site by Mick). A documentary about his career, produced by Vice Films and Straight Up Films, called ‘SHOT!’, was launched at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2016. The doc is being distributed by Magnolia Pictures and was released theatrically in Spring 2017. A classic quote from Mick in the London Times, who dubbed him ‘the music world’s top snapper’: “I’ve never felt like a voyeur, although I’ve certainly done plenty of looking! I work from the inside out. Like a cook I gather all the ingredients and keep mixing and stirring and tasting until the kind of effluvia starts to rise, then I’m off to the races. It’s an addictive kind of a feeling that I need a regular shot of otherwise I don’t feel right.”
He recently shot a major fashion campaign for the Gucci brand in Rome, which was published worldwide in the spring of 2018. Alessandro Michele, the groundbreaking designer for Gucci, said: “I love my collaboration with Mick. We made beautiful images together. I respect him as a great fellow artist and imagemaker.”
More About The Jewelry Studio’s Robert Pepkin:
A Long Island native, Robert Pepkin attended the Pratt Institute for Fine Art before working with fine jewelry artist Marla Mencher for extra income. He found inspiration in a new kind of art that people could wear.
After a chance meeting with Francis Ford Coppola’s father Carmine, he was hired to work on the set design of their production of “Opera on the Sound.” Additionally, Robert’s bold illustrations have graced pages from Penthouse to Reader’s Digest.
Pepkin continued to get more involved in the design and creation of jewelry and eventually opened “The Jewelry Studio.” During his 40 year career as an artist and jeweler, he has been inspired by countless artists both inside and outside his field. Yet, he gets his greatest inspiration from working with his client’s sentimental items and other designers’ creation of timeless pieces. From redesigning family heirlooms to creating one-of-a-kind pieces, Pepkin enjoys the process as well as the close bonds and relationships he has with his clients.
He finds equal inspiration in the work of Mick Rock, who he met over 30 years ago. Pepkin is extremely excited to collaborate with Rock in their upcoming gallery show. “The attraction to Mick’s work for me comes from the many theatrical undertones, from the drama behind the legendary black and white Queen II album cover to capturing the dramatic poses of Iggy Pop on stage — all of his shots capture the spirit of the artist or band he works with. The same has gone for me when trying to create something that someone will wear. You have to capture their spirit because the pieces become part of them and part of their own history.”
Through David Glicker, a mutual friend and promoter, the two artists have reconnected to collaborate on this very special event.
On Saturday, October 20th (6-10PM) through Sunday, October 21st (1-6PM) the two artistic greats will come together to premiere The Mick Rock Iconic GalleryShow at Robert Pepkin’s The Jewelry Studio in Plainview, NY – an experience not to be missed for music, art, and jewelry fans alike!
With Latest Release “Broken Wings”, The Young Star Displays Her Strength Through Trying Times As A Message To All Those Combatting Their Own Demons
Overcoming hardship and transforming it into triumph through music is nothing new, but it takes a unique talent to do it in a way that truly leaves an impact on one’s psyche. Such is the case with Singer-Songwriter Izzy Escobar, whose debut single “Broken Wings” (Available everywhere digitally on June 29th!) showcases her commanding attitude and powerful vocal prowess in very distinct fashion.
With “Broken Wings”, subtle synth work and a stomping beat lay the groundwork for an alluring lyrical journey of determination shining through pain as Escobar sings “Right here in my place all these walls suddenly disintegrate // Into dust, into here, it flies away out of the atmosphere // And I feel like I can fly with broken wings”.
“I believed that music and song had the potential to change lives because of the way it is able to positively affect our emotions and perceptions”
Izzy Escobar’s music is about loving one another the way we want to be loved ourselves. And having FUN along the way! Rising from a “never ending circle of violence” from an abusive stepparent, where she was voiceless in protecting her own family members, she began channeling that pain into lyrics–and eventually songs–at a very young age. “I began to write words, and soon realized that I could synchronize the words in my diary with the tune in my head” says the Massachusetts native, whose latest singles show how far she’s come from that frightened girl to a strong, capable woman who wants to spread her message of hope and strength to those who may face their own struggles. “A few years later, as I read through that same songbook, I noticed that I had made a shift from finding my voice to helping those who couldn’t find their own”.
As she continued on her musical journey, Escobar took to not only writing and singing, but reading sheet music and studying music theory, as well as playing the violin, guitar, and piano. “I believe that to be a healthy human being, we must have an idea of who we are, and what our existence is. But the promise of a home safe from physical abuse and fear remains elusive for many millions of women and children in this country. Now an accomplished singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, she continues to channel her strengths into giving a voice to the voiceless, and helping those who face the same fate as she had in her youth.

Following the release of his last video for the single “DANK”, Singer/Songwriter and Producer Jesse Eplan is bringing new meaning to “4/20” as he just dropped his latest EP “Purple Wave” which features a collaboration with non other than trap/hip-hop heavyweight Famous Dex!
Having linked up with Famous Dex and collaborated on the hot new trap infused hip-hop banger, Eplan has been grinding it out in the studio since the beginning of the new year. Dex is widely known for his 2017 hit “Pick It Up” which also featured SONY Music’s own A$AP Rocky which hit the Billboard 100 Charts and was certified GOLD in 2017. Chicago’s young turn-up prodigy is known for his flamboyant heavy beats and vibrant party lyrics, bringing to the table a dynamic, vivid flow to music’s popular culture, which surely adds to Eplan’s own fiery vocals in “Flight”
Discovering a knack for music at a very young age, Jesse learned how to play multiple instruments from drums to bass, guitar, keyboards, and polished his vocal talents playing in local bands on his home turf – Long Island, NY. Eplan’s music consists of genres anywhere from Hip-Hop to Pop and R&B, and able to blend them in a unique way and make it his own has come from years of immersing himself in music.
Having first heard Led Zeppelin, ACDC, The Beatles and many of the world’s top music revolutionaries in early adolescence through his teen years – it influenced him immensely as he began performing in bands as a lead singer, drummer and lead guitar player. When he began playing throughout Long Island and Manhattan in various gigs and charity events which raised thousands of dollars helping to fight crohn’s disease, colitis, and breast cancer, he was then able to really cut his teeth as a live musician.
As he began developing perfect pitch from his guitar and piano playing, it helped him immensely with his next stage of music: writing, producing and recording. Purchasing Logic X Pro, he was able to learn the digital audio workstation and music production software with ease, teaching himself every facet of the program and figuring out how to make beats to record his own vocal tracks over. This brought him into a new world of exploring Hip-Hop, R&B and Trap Music which would be where he ultimately found his niche as a successful singer/songwriter and producer.
The classic rock scene on Long Island is surging, and this phenomenon has fueled a growing popularity among the many tribute bands who breathe new life into this music at venues across Nassau and Suffolk. The 6th AnnualWoodstock Revival is scheduled for Sunday, June 10th and will feature live music by Wonderous Stories, Half Step, Milagro, Jellyband and Dave Diamond Band, who will be recreating the music of The Who, The Grateful Dead, Santana, Sly & The Family Stone, Janis Joplin, The Band, Hendrix, CSNY, Creedence, and more!
Along with all the tie-dyed regalia and familial hugs, the event will showcase live painting and exhibiting by dozens of artists, plus vending, kids’ activities, food & beverage, yoga, massage, and hula hooping.
Says festival producer, Rich Rivkin, “Woodstock Revival is one of my all time favorite days. It’s where I get to dance and hang out at the park with a thousand of my closest friends, and you can see from the expressions on everyone’s face that happiness abounds. There’s clearly a peace & love kind of vibe that is unique to this event, and the music is just amazing.”
Communities of devoted fans have coalesced around these bands during recent years, sparking new friendships and a tangible sense of camaraderie among folks who share a common passion for the music that they grew up with.
When these fans converge to see their favorite bands perform, the energy of the event seems to exceed the sum of its parts. It often becomes more than just a music experience. At its peak, there is a sensation of shared knowingness – something that’s conveyed by a simple glance or smile, among those who find themselves dancing, high fiving, and singing in unison.
This joyous brand of social harmony plays out in spectacular form each summer when Long Island’s annual Woodstock-themed music festival takes the stage at Old Bethpage Village Restoration (1303 Round Swamp Rd, Old Bethpage) June 10th from Noon until 7:30 pm!
