Then, look out for “Terror Tuesdays” coming to movie theaters and venues across the nation. Brain Damage himself, the host of Terror TV, will be touring exhibitions and special events throughout the year.

The Peter Ulrich Collaboration Set to Release New Record “Final Reflections”

The Peter Ulrich Collaboration Set to Release New Record “Final Reflections”

Renowned Member of Seminal Art Rock Band Dead Can Dance Continues to Put Out Intricate, Sophisticated Material As the Release of Final Reflections Completes The Painted Caravan Trilogy

The Peter Ulrich Collaboration’s “Final Reflections”; the final chapter in the well received The Painted Caravan Trilogy, will be available for streaming and purchase on all the major services starting December 3rd, 2019 with an expected single and video for the lead track “Artificial Man” set to drop in the coming weeks.

As a special thanks to Collaboration fans, from September 16th until November 5th, the new album Final Reflections – along with the entire Painted Caravan Trilogy – will be available on a pre order basis at a special discounted rate through AIS Records; which is distributing Final Reflections and The Painted Caravan Trilogy under an exclusive license from City Canyons. Stayed tuned for a link for this very special discount with access to the entire Trilogy at one convenient location.

The Peter Ulrich Collaboration is a collaboration helmed by Peter Ulrich, former percussionist for the iconic Dead Can Dance, the brilliantly innovative band that music historian Ian McFarlane described as world music that “constructed soundscapes of mesmerizing grandeur and solemn beauty… with African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chants, Middle-Eastern mantras and art-rock”. Ulrich met Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, the founders and cornerstones of Dead Can Dance, in London in 1982 and joined the band on drums and percussion. After leaving DCD and after releasing a string of critically acclaimed releases as a solo artist, Peter’s next big step was The Peter Ulrich Collaboration.

The Collaboration is the brainchild of Ulrich and Trebor “Big T” Lloyd of City Canyons Productions as producer and a principal collaborator. The Collaboration mixes folk rock, world rock, art rock and psychedelic music with a world view that encompasses alternative history, fictional universes, Steampunk, and Goth, and recalls the exquisitely crafted soundscapes of Dead Can Dance. The group features songwriting by Ulrich, Lloyd, and New York songwriters Anne Husick, Sara Wendt and Kathy Sheppard among others with vocals by David Steele, Wendt, Ulrich, Jen Elliott, Shane Chapman, Stephanie Linn, Timothy Dark and other bright American and English talents. The vocalists are backed by a crackerjack band playing rock, post-rock, world and folk influenced music. After the release of two albums, thrilled New York Collaboration fans were were treated to a live performance by the band at Manhattan’s famous Webster Hall in 2015. Reviews for the first two albums were little short of spectacular:

“A rich and song-filled showcase”—RollingStone. com

“Grand mix of folk and world music”—Modern Drummer

“Riveting and intriguing”—Popdose

“A collaboration to be cherished”—The Independent

“Colorful and enjoyable record”—All Music Guide

Now following up their well received second effort Tempus Fugitives, about which Entertainment UK proclaimed “Sensuous wafting flights of ethereal fancy and finely-honed but never overstated lyrics are [Ulrich’s] forte , and after the first album in the trilogy The Painted Caravan made waves with its release as “another fine record that has been described as The Great Missing West Coast Album”, The Peter Ulrich Collaboration is delighted to be able to bring this story to a close, releasing Final Reflections as a worthy and compelling companion piece.

While Final Reflections is chock full of notable songs, perhaps the most striking single, sung by the richly talented English vocalist David Steele, is Artificial Man; the Collaboration’s chilling look at a dystopian society in which creatures that are part man and part machine are on the verge of rebellion against their human overlords. Here’s a preview of the Artificial Man video with lyrics.

LYRICS TO ARTIFICIAL MAN FROM “FINAL REFLECTIONS”:

INTRO

Over mortal men I tower

Fearless, full of power

But slave of my makers

Created by dark undertakings

I am their wondrous Adam

Yet I’d like to damn them

To the same empty hell where I am.

VERSE ONE

Their artificial man

It’s hollow in my chest

Where something weighty was

A heaviness now gone,

Where once sorrow touched me

A sorrow that is done

Visited once by joy

Though now there is none.

An artificial man.

VERSE TWO

Their artificial man

There’s a hole in my head

A trace of memories

Mostly unremembered

Near gone but not dead

Faint and dying embers

Edited history

Selective mystery.

An artificial man.

VERSE THREE

Their artificial man

Empty of all feeling

But remotely recalling

A time when I could feel

Before the supple limbs

Were cast in subtle steel

Before love ran through me

Like the rain through a drain

An artificial man.

OUTRO

Created by dark undertakings

I am their wondrous Adam

Yet I’d like to damn them

To the same empty hell where I am.

With The Painted Caravan Trilogy now complete, Peter Ulrich brings his colorful Caravan home full speed ahead. All aboard for the final exhilarating trip!

Mark Newman Releases Brand New LP “Empirical Truth”

Mark Newman Releases Brand New LP “Empirical Truth”

July, 2019 (New York, NY) — It can certainly be said that a labor of love is not much of a labor at all, and with singer/songwriter and guitarist Mark Newman’s latest release “Empirical Truth” (via Danal Music) this is very much the case, as he’s proven once again his power of true musicianship.

Packed with Newman’s usual penchant for dynamic storytelling and political commentary throughout his lyrics, Empirical Truth certainly lives up to its name. With songs ranging in topic from the state of gun control in the U.S. to the Dakota Access Pipeline, an innocent man blamed for murder, love and loss and even a few covers from Little Feat, John Oates, and more – the album is brimming with a dynamic mix of Americana/Blues/Pop and slide-guitar work from start to finish. Newman is joined on the LP by Drummers Shawn Murray and John Michel, Keyboardists Kevin McKendree, James Dower and Mark Bonder, Bassist Craig Privett and Vocalists Naomi Margolin, Janet Montalbo, Maag Stanley, Steve Bluth, Jeff Lubin, Jacob Koch, and Norm Madnick.

A New York native, Mark Newman’s musical prowess has taken him around the world several times over, playing with an eclectic mix of noted musical talents from Sting to Elvis Costello, and Travis Tritt as well as his own solo work. A multi stringsman, Mark has mastered electric/acoustic/lap steel guitar as well as the mandolin and dobro, and with a voice reminiscent of many rock and blues men before him- it has the familiarity of an old friend yet the power and soul of many of today’s rock, soul, folk and R&B icons. For over five years, Newman and fellow songwriter Naomi Margolin have run the “Music From the Hive”  Singer/Songwriter Series, and for the past three years- “The Original Music Series” for bands, in an attempt to keep original music alive on Long Island.

Although Newman has played a ton of exciting solo and full-band showcases–notably Delbert McClinton at Highline Ballroom just last month and Les Dudek at My Father’s Place at the Roslyn Hotel, The Paramount in Huntington opening for The Doobie Brothers, The Space at Westbury opening for the one and only Don Felder and David Bromberg on separate occasions, The Blue Note in Tokyo, Japan, and NYC’s Legendary Bitter End–he has also worked alongside so many soul, blues, and rock greats of our time including John Oates (Hall and Oates), Jim McCarty (The Yardbirds), Willy DeVille (Mink DeVille), Sam The Sham, Bobby Whitlock (Derek and the Dominos) and Sam Moore (Sam & Dave)!

Past releases include 2010’s “Walls of Jericho” filled with intricate guitar work and mixed with a plethora of sounds from hard rock to a lighter more Dylanesque folk tinge, and 2015’s  “Brussels” – a live acoustic-driven EP that packs a bluesy punch reminiscent of Clapton’s “Unplugged” album through both the guitar work and raw vocal power. His latest LP “Empirical Truth” is due later this year.

Empirical Truth Track Listing:

  1. Scapegoat
  2. Life Without You
  3. Mississippi Mile
  4. When I Aim My Gun
  5. Seven Days
  6. One More Song About A Highway
  7. Sharin’ The Blues
  8. Pipeline
  9. Are You Lonely For Me
  10. Everything You Know
  11. Roll Um Easy
  12. Lycanthropy

ABOUT SCATTERBRAIN/LUDICHRIST: Scatterbrain was an eclectic thrash metal band founded in 1989 by Tommy Christ and Glen Cummings after their Long Island, New York hardcore (NYHC) group Ludichrist broke up. The band performed distinctive live shows incorporating bizarre cover songs such as a Mozart medley mixed with Motörhead, cross-dressing, and giant chickens. Their most popular single “Don’t Call Me Dude” was a top-twenty pop single in Australia. The video received regular rotation on MTV’s Headbangers Ball. The same video is also featured in the episode “Blood Drive” on MTV’s Beavis and Butt-head. The band contributed a cover of LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” to the soundtrack of the 1992 movie Encino Man. In 1993 Cummings parted ways with the others and moved to Nashville, founding the group Stone Deep. Christ, Neider, Brogna and Boyko wrote and released Scatterbrain’s third album, a 7-song E.P. titled: Mundus Intellectualis (1994). The band stopped writing, recording, or touring in 1994. In 2007 Christ, Neider, Brogna and Ludichrist drummer Dave Miranda reunited to perform a handful of Scatterbrain / Ludichrist reunion shows. Cummings did not participate.

More About Guy Brogna: The quote “Music is not what I do, it’s who I am” can be seen all over the world on posters, inspirational websites etc. etc., but few musicians and music enthusiasts can truly say they live by it. Guy was a touring musician with the bands Ludichrist and Scatterbrain, and had albums out on Relativity Records and Elektra Records as well as music videos on MTV. He is also owner of All Music Inc one of the premiere music stores in New York; With over 700 guitars on the floor, Brogna’s store has almost everything you can think of, and his knowledge as a working musician has helped him stock only the best and has also given him the opportunity to sell guitars to the likes of Keith Urban, Joe Satriani, Anthony Esposito (Lynch Mob, Ace Frehley), and Robert Kearns (Cry of Love, Sheryl Crow) from their ebay store. He also runs a music school on premises, building the lesson program to over 400 students, renting over 1500 instruments to local budding musicians and doing repairs for guitarists such as Richie Blackmore, Jessie Lacey from Brand New, Toby Walker and Brian Daniels from Madball!

Guy also partners with radio station WBAB for intimate shows at the store or radio station like Devon Allman and Geoff Tate from Queensryche and does food and toy drives with Long Island Cares Harry Chapin Food Bank and ROCKcanROLL. ALL MUSIC likes to also have informative and entertaining clinics in the store and have had guests like Larry Mitchell, Mike Orlando (Adrenalin Mob), John Moyer (Disturbed), Greg Koch, Michael Angelo Batio, Manelli Jamal (Cole Clark endorsee), Joe Rock and Mark Mendoza (Twisted Sister – Joe Rock and the All Stars).

One of Guy’s most recent efforts has been with Special Needs Music Educator and Musician Lee Stockner. They are the founders of “Music Lee Inclined Guy, Inc.” which produced the revolutionary book series Occupational Octaves Piano. OOP is designed for students with Autism and other special needs to be able to easily and effectively play the piano through a new language of music, now with training and certification available for instructors of various backgrounds related to the worlds of Special Education, Music Education, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy and more. They have opened locations in NY, California, Florida and overseas in Bahrain, Jordan, and Ireland. Finally, teaming up with Long Island music impresario Rick Eberle to form G&R Events in 2017, they currently run the concert season at the Jones Beach Bandshell. The two also have a long standing relationship with Long Island venue The Space at Westbury, Brogna’s All Music Lounge at The Space has become the new haven for local musicians to perform every genre under the sun.

A message from Steve Vai himself on the company website: It’s that time again! I’m very excited to invite you all to join me at Vai Academy 5.0, taking place July 29 – August 2, 2019 at The Mansion at Glen Cove on Long Island in Glen Cove, NY not far from where I grew up in Carle Place. I was a teenager on Long Island in the 70’s and it was an amazing place to grow up. New York City wasn’t far, nor was The Hamptons. Living in California is nice, but I’m one of those guys that pines after the seasons so growing up on Long Island was pretty magical. Summertime is especially beautiful so I’m already looking forward to it.

Vai Academy 5.0 will include all of the things we usually offer – a myriad of classes with outstanding teachers, study and discussions on technique and theory, and of course, my own metaphysical meanderings that I believe are at the core of the transformation you are capable of with your instrument. But this year, the theme of the camp is “Sound Sculpting,” and we will be diving deep into the quality of the tone that comes out of your amp, focusing heavily on signal path and the use of FX. Signal path is integral to the quality of your tone. The way the signal comes out of your guitar, and goes into various stomp boxes, and then into your amp, alters tremendously based on the FX you use and the order in which they are plugged in. There will be discussions on the most effective signal path, when to use a digital or analog FX, how the FX loop actually works, how various FX work and the terminologies of FX perimeters when programming. It’s a vast field that many guitarists don’t quite understand, even though it’s integral to their sound.

At my last camp, I personally taught more classes than ever before. I really enjoy speaking to the campers so that will continue at Vai Academy 5.0. We will also have a number of other extremely competent artists around to offer their wisdom and tips. The other teachers I’ve invited are all accomplished in their field, although that does not necessarily mean they need to be famous to be effective teachers. Of the utmost importance is that they are able to teach in a way that encourages and inspires the students to expand their own tools for the discovery and manifestation of their own uniquely creative visions. Having said that, we certainly do have some “famous” artists joining us.

One thing that I think makes Vai Academy so special is that I jam with each and every attendee. This might be my favorite aspect of the camp. Connecting with another person on a musical level is an intimate space I love embracing. We musicians are always learning something on some level, and I believe I learn something every time I jam with a student, no matter what level they are at. I can make music with someone even if they show up with a dime and a rubber band.

This is our fifth Vai Academy, and I’m so appreciative of how it has grown and evolved over the past five years. At the end of every camp we send out a questionnaire to those that attended, with very specific questions regarding what they liked, didn’t like, what they would like to see more of, etc. We really listen to what they tell us so hopefully this next camp will be our best yet. There’s a diverse group of people that attend, all at different levels of proficiency, with different understandings of music and the music business. We try to keep things at a level that is helpful for all, and the way we go about doing that is continuing to evolve at every camp.

I know I’m personally looking forward to Vai Academy 5.0. Hope to see you all there!

The Inoculated Canaries Fly High with New Music and Appearances

The Exciting Young New York Quartet Set to Sing and Glide Their Way to Stardom This Summer and Fall with Deep Grooves, Melodic Hooks and Exciting Live Performances
IC_NEW

July, 2019 (Long Island , NY) – Imagine walking into a record store  and finding a vinyl that takes you back to a time, a decade, where songs had guitar solos, piano melodies and real drums. Think “OLD SCHOOL ROCK WITH A MODERN TWIST” and you’ve just about opened the Canaries’ cage.

On the heels of the release of their single and video for “Sneakers”, The Canaries are gearing up for their brand new song “Donna”, set to drop on the major services September 20th – with the video for the track coming out on Sept 26th.  Don’t miss their performance at Bowery Electric in NYC on Fri Sept 27th.

Singer/Guitarist Mike Rubin says “The lyrics to “Donna” are very tongue and cheek.  The song is not meant to take itself too seriously.”

Upcoming Performances:

Mon July 29th – LIVE on 90.3 WHPC radio, Long Island (9pm EST)

Thurs Aug 8th – LIVE on 90.5 WBJB radio, NJ  (7pm EST)

Sun Aug 18th – LIVE at Revolution Bar & Music Hall

Fri Sept 27th – LIVE at Bowery Electric, NYC (8pm EST)

“The Inoculated Canaries are a four-piece rock outfit from New York City with influences they describe as including Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The Black Keys and Pink Floyd. That Whitman’s Sampler of artists is certainly on prominent parade in the group’s straight up, grass-fed approach to the rock-n-roll realm’s thumping beats and six-string gymnastics.”- ON THE BACK EDGE OF THE BEAT

Eclectic, boundary defying, and never lacking in sarcastic remarks, The Inoculated Canaries (in.oc.u.lat.ed  ca.nar.ies) are a rock and roll force to be reckoned with. Hailing from New York, the “four guys who can’t dance” are striving to leave their musical legacy; inspired by artists such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, and Nirvana, The Inoculated Canaries are constantly pushing themselves to explore new, innovative sounds while making their presence known.

The unforgettable quartet is composed of Michael Rubin (guitar, vocals), James Terranova (drums), Dylan Gross (bass), and Brian Sweeney (keyboard). Coming from diverse backgrounds and varied musical influences, the band values creativity above all else; striving to combine familiar elements with the unexpected, The Inoculated Canaries attempt to make sense of individualism and humanity in the most honest way possible:

“We want to take those raw human emotions we all feel in the darkness of our minds and write songs about them. We’re not here to be rich or famous, we’re here to be great. To us, Greatness means making music that is real, and we are absolutely relentless about every single note. Greatness means learning from the best, but always being original.  Greatness is sometimes having to stick up your middle finger to authority, convention and even the person in the mirror… Side-Effects may include crying, laughing, a sudden sense of existential dread, and/or hearing-loss.”

The rockers are immensely passionate about the music they share and the experience they create for fans. The band had the opportunity to open for The Mowglis in 2017 , COIN in 2019 and played ‘Cult of Personality’ live with Will Calhounand Doug Wimbish of Living Colour.

The Inoculated Canaries also worked directly with Matt Squire (producer of Panic! at the Disco, Ariana Grande, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, Demi Lovato and more).  They have also worked with producer David Caggiano (who worked with Art Garfunkel).

The Inoculated Canaries’ first EP “The Blue Laws” was soon followed by their single “Don’t Be Late”, a live prog performance “The Fifth Song” and an acoustic version of their song “Jericho”.  Their second EP “Trying Times” was also followed by singles “Count Me Out”, “Who Are You”, “The Lawyer’s Wife” and “Sneakers”.
