For Long Island ska/reggae/rock fans who grew up blasting the music of Sublime as they drove along the coastal shores chasing the sunshine, it’s of no surprise the recent announcement that cinematic/music/skate collective Raised Fist Propaganda will present LAW live in Long Beach for the first time ever is stirring up excitement. Fronted by the son of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell, Jakob Nowell will bring his recently transformed ska-punk turned “no nonsense rock” band to Junction (20 W Park Ave Ste A, Long Beach, NY 11561) on Friday, November 30th at 9:00PM with support by The Zebulonites, Edjacted Phools, and Rick Eberle!

LAW – the newly focused rock band based out of Los Angeles County, CA was founded in 2013 in Long Beach, CA. The band consists of Jakob Nowell (Vocalist), Nick Aguilar (Drummer), Aidan Palacios (Guitarist), and Logun Spellacy (Bassist). The band is currently based out of LA County and has been playing regular shows since 2013. While currently writing new music and seeking to spread their message through straightforward, to-the-point, no-nonsense rock music – their style consists of a heavy emphasis on loud, live sound with thunderous basslines, sonorous solos, furious drums and wailing vocals.

Having begun with drummer Nicholas Aguilar and bassist Dakota Ethridge in Long Beach in 2013 when Nowell was still a teen, the band first performed ska-punk in the tradition of Nowell’s father. Palacios joined on lead guitar in early 2015, followed the next year by Spellacy after Ethridge’s exit. Having recorded their debut release “Mild Lawtism” via Skunk Records, the 8 song EP was then followed by “Toxic” in 2016 – both focused on the ska/reggae/punk sound the band had been so deeply influenced by, noteably drawing “Sublime” comparisons. The ladder would be a “final goodbye to the stylistic choices of their past” as they sought to “bury the hatchet so to speak with that style”.

Currently in the process of recording their new and unheard songs to debut their true style in a full length release, “There and Back Again” is said to be making its debut later this year. Their sound now is an experimental mix of Queens of the Stone Age, Alice in Chains and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The band is playing many shows every weekend and is seeking to expand. The band has a heavy emphasis on live sound and would ask the listener to come out to a show near them to judge for themselves.

And now those NY listeners can judge for themselves as LAW comes to Junction in Long Beach with The Zebulonites, Edjacted Phools, and Rick Eberle on Friday, November 30th at 9:00PM!

More About Raised Fist Propaganda:

In 2006, Jeff Pliskin started Raised Fist Propaganda. The premise of the company was to promote a lifestyle that intertwined Punk Rock, Reggae, and Skateboarding – 3 things that played a crucial role in his life growing up in New York. In 2008, he began to expand the business, shooting photos and music videos for his favorite hip-hop & reggae artists in the scene. In 2009, Pliskin was fortunate enough to link up with one of his favorite reggae rock groups, Slightly Stoopid. The California vibe added to the overall flavor of RFP. At the same time, he joined with some of NYC’s OG Skate legends (Zoo York, Supreme, Shut) to produce limited edition Legend Skate Decks at the Etnies Showroom in SOHO. The party was called “Respect,” and brought together the skaters with reggae, hip-hop and punk bands. This created the essential “lifestyle” of Raised Fist Propaganda – Music and Culture – promoting nothing but positive vibes. Pliskin owes a great deal of that type of thinking to the New York Punk rock and Hardcore scene as well – which can be seen in the very makeup of RFP.

The three member rock group met at Bellmore’s School of Rock where they continue to learn and hone their impressive musical skills. The band focuses on “soulful rock,” and cover songs Wednesday night by artists such as Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, as well as songs from Goldsmith’s own solo EP, “No Kidding”. “Every song we play makes us better players,” Bustamante says. “More genres make us more open and change the direction we go in”. All three members of Sons of Sounds picked up their love of classic rock from their parents, who have played it for them for as long as they can remember.

He’ll Make His Return to The MFP Stage This Time Opening For The Legendary Guitarist and Singer/Songwriter Whose Worked with Everyone From the Steve Miller Band to Cher, Boz Scaggs, the Allman Brothers, and MORE

Mark Newman

Following his recent set before Midge Ure last month, singer/songwriter and guitarist Mark Newman will take to the newly reopened My Father’s Place at The Roslyn Hotel (1221 Old Northern Blvd, Roslyn, NY 11576) once again THIS THURSDAY opening for the Les Dudek Band!

Doors @ 6PM, Show at 8PM

Les Dudek is known in the music world as a Guitar Legend whose contributions have influenced the history of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is best remembered for his radio hits, “Old Judge Jones” and “City Magic”. After releasing four successful solo albums and one collaboration (DFK) with Columbia Records, the legendary Southern Rocker has gone on to release three more albums with Eflat Productions; “Deeper Shades of Blues”, “Freestyle” and “Delta Breeze”. In addition to a successful solo career, his uniquely recognizable guitar style can be heard daily on interactive games, television and film, as well as, playing with some of Rock and Pop’s biggest names, such as the Steve Miller Band, Boz Scaggs, The Allman Brothers Band, Dave Mason, Stevie Nicks, and many more.

A New York native, Mark Newman’s musical prowess has taken him around the world several times over, playing with an eclectic mix of noted musical talents from Sting to Elvis Costello, and Travis Tritt as well as his own solo work. A multi stringsman, Mark has mastered electric/acoustic/lap steel guitar as well as the mandolin and dobro, and with a voice reminiscent of many rock and blues men before him- it has the familiarity of an old friend yet the power and soul of many of today’s rock, soul, folk and R&B icons. For over five years, Newman and fellow songwriter Naomi Margolin have run the “Music From the Hive”  Singer/Songwriter Series, and for the past three years- “The Original Music Series” for bands, in an attempt to keep original music alive on Long Island. Newman also records and produces local artists in the Long Island/NYC area.

Although Newman has played a ton of exciting solo and full-band showcases–notably NYC’s B.B. King’s for the Delbert McClinton Birthday Show, The Paramount in Huntington opening for The Doobie Brothers, The Space at Westbury opening for the one and only Don Felder and David Bromberg on separate occasions, The Blue Note in Tokyo, Japan, and NYC’s Legendary Bitter End–he has also worked as sideman to so many soul, blues, and rock greats of our time like John Oates (Hall and Oates), Jim McCarty (The Yardbirds), Willy DeVille (Mink DeVille), Sam The Sham, Bobby Whitlock (Derek and the Dominos) and Sam Moore (Sam & Dave)!

Past releases include 2010’s “Walls of Jericho” filled with intricate guitar work and mixed with a plethora of sounds from hard rock to a lighter more Dylanesque folk tinge, and 2015’s  “Brussels” – a live acoustic-driven EP that packs a bluesy punch reminiscent of Clapton’s “Unplugged” album through both the guitar work and raw vocal power. His latest LP “Empirical Truth” is due later this year.

Make sure to catch Newman performing LIVE this Thursday, October 11th as he takes the stage at My Father’s Place at The Roslyn Hotel before the Les Dudek Band!

New Book “Smile! Be Happy! Life Lessons From An Uncommon Housewife” by Angela LaRosa Seeks to Spread Thoughtful and Inspiring Advice Through Positivity

Having Overcome Many Trials and Tribulations From Losing Her Mother at a Young Age to Being Diagnosed with a Brain Tumor and Raising A Child With Autism – Angela Shares What She Has Learned From Handling Life’s Challenges and Choosing to Move On While Staying Happy and Healthy

Cover with Synopsis (1)

Being a housewife is challenging – managing a home, assisting a husband in business, and raising four children (not to mention taking care of yourself), which is the focus of the inspirational new book “Smile! Be Happy! Life Lessons From An Uncommon Housewife” by Author/Mother/Wife and Health Coach Angela LaRosa, out now via Legacy Projects.

In the books introduction, Angela states “I have wanted to write this book for a long time, but never did because I considered myself in the eyes of society to be just an ordinary woman without the fame required to appeal to the masses” continuing “But then I came to realize that this is exactly why I should do this book – because as a suburban mother of four beautiful children, a happy housewife, and someone devoted to prayer and making the world around me a more positive and loving place, I may make a difference”. And that is certainly what she has done.

In chapters from “The Basics” where she touches on topics like finding balance, prayer, faith, and common sense to “Children and Family” discussing raising a child with Autism, “Communicating Through Challenges” which addresses bullying, self expression, and more – “Smile! Be Happy!” certainly hits on topics all can relate to and learn from. Having brought hope and optimism to every aspect of her life, and with her bold and durable commitment to God, she enjoys a life of beautiful fulfillment and is now proud to share what she has learned.

About the Author:

Angela LaRosa was born in Brooklyn, New York, to loving parents who unfortunately divorced when she was quite young. This triggered a litany of tragedies and loss – first, losing the security of an intact family, and then her “Mommy” in a tragic accident, which took her life. Angela moved to Queens with her father and stepmother, along with an amazing younger brother and sister, with occasional visits from her older brother who lived far away.

As she developed into a young lady, Angela gained strength and wisdom from being exposed to many challenging situations, and she always searched for positive outcomes and solutions. For many years, she wore a smile on her face as a mask to protect herself and others from sadness. She believes this was one of her very first blessings in creating a happy life. Today, she feels her heavenly mother’s spirit constantly guiding and protecting her, along with the grace of God.

Angela currently resides on Long Island with her wonderful husband, four beautiful children, and three dogs, surrounded by a close family and amazing friends. She feels blessed and believes that she can overcome any obstacle in her way with a positive attitude, a smile, and the love and protection of God and all her angels.

Angela aims to project positivity into the world each day as she strives to help others live a happy life. She hopes that her story will encourage and inspire others to create a world of prayer, peace, and prosperity, while wearing an infectious smile.
