ABOUT THE FAIR:

Arts on Terry Street is a collaborative effort of the Patchogue Arts Council, Inc. and Artspace Patchogue Lofts. It was conceived two years ago in a meeting with Patchogue Village Mayor Paul Pontieri; Village Trustee Lori Devlin, who is also president of the Patchogue Arts Council; and Artspace Resident Dave Rogers to create an event that would highlight the best art that Patchogue has to offer and to bring other organizations from all of Long Island to assemble an art fair with a twist – a big art fair feel on a smaller scale that would take place on and around Terry Street, the heart of the arts in Patchogue, and home to Artspace Patchogue, the Patchogue Arts Council, Inc., and the Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center, as well as a beautifully landscaped park.

After a couple of meetings to work out the details of how to organize the event, the Patchogue Arts Council and artists in Artspace Patchogue came together to create the first ever street fair of this kind in the Village of Patchogue. Though the fair will have the usual tents set up like many art fairs around Long Island, there will be a few additions here in Patchogue, including indoor exhibits at both the Patchogue Arts Council and Artspace Patchogue. The exhibit at the arts council’s gallery will be its yearly member exhibit, PatchWorks, and Artspace will present two exhibits in its lobby gallery. One will be a small sculpture exhibit titled “Objects Assembled” curated by Lisa Di Stefano, a resident of Artspace; and the other will be the first ever National Artspace Artists Run Exhibit curated by Dave Rogers and featuring works by artists from Artspace buildings across the country.

GOLD COAST ARTS CENTER WELCOMES LAUREN WAGNER TO STAFF

The Long Island Native is Set to Bring a Wealth of Knowledge and Experience to the Position

Great Neck, NY (April, 2016) — It was recently announced that the Gold Coast Arts Center and Gold Coast International Film Festival has hired Lauren Wagner as the newest addition to their team!

Lauren Wagner was born and raised in Manorville on the East End of Long Island and attended Eastport High School. From a young age she always wanted to be an artist, but never excelled in making art, unable to draw or paint to her standards of perfection, but always wanting to be involved in the arts.  However, with the encouragement of supportive parents, Wagner was always taken around to museums, Broadway plays, orchestra performance, and all the cultural events available in NY. Growing up an hour and a half outside of New York City provided a wealth of opportunities to be exposed to the culture that she loved. She later studied theatre and music, and excelled at both… but painting and drawing were still the art forms which she loved most. Powering forward, she continued to pursue her passion and admiration for art in her education. She sought guidance from great artistic mentors. Her education in the arts was focused primarily in informal learning environments – museums, galleries, etc, but she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Arts Administration from Wagner College of Staten Island and then completed her Master’s Degree in Museum Studies from Johns Hopkins University this past May. After working in Miami as a successful art curator in a high profile gallery, Lauren Wagner has returned to her home base on Long Island. She is looking forward to bringing her experience, passion and vision to the Gold Coast Arts Center and Gold Coast International Film Festival!

Since its founding, over 100,000 people of all ages and backgrounds have taken advantage of the Gold Coast Arts Center’s many classes, live performances, programs, workshops, films and art exhibits. Every day the GCAC provides students, teachers, parents, senior citizens and community members of all ages and from a wide geographic distribution with opportunities to learn about, discuss, view, enjoy, share and participate in the world of the arts and arts education.

During the seven-day Gold Coast International Film Festival; film buffs, scholars, critics, filmmakers, and regional residents come together to celebrate the art and influence of cinema in the charming and historic towns and villages of Long Island’s Gold Coast. With so many exciting programs, exhibits, and live entertainment to choose from, along with additional programs and courses continually being added to their offerings, this new addition to the staff comes just in time for the Spring and Summer months of planning and presentation at 113 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck!

With such a highly acclaimed, educated, and experienced professional joining the GCAC and GCIFF team, Lauren Wagner is sure to add to the already sterling reputation of one of Long Island’s most reputable institutions!

Magician and Balloon Artist Friends Have “Something” Up Their Sleeves Just In Time For Valentine’s Day

John Reid and Brian Daniel South Turn Humorous Gift Into Baking Mold and Cookbook Perfect for Any Occasion, Including February 14th!

January, 2016 (New York, NY) — With the Christmas Season in the rearview and Valentine’s Day soon approaching, New York and Utah based magician friends Brian Daniel South and John Reid have created the perfect SOMETHING to get for that special SOMEONE! With their unique new book of creative ideas and recipes that comes along with a silicone baking mold, it’s the perfect two-in-one gift that’s sure to delight sweethearts and friends alike who just want that little extra Something to let them know you care!

Something started years ago when a friend showed Reid (Magician, Balloon Artist, and Founder of Epic Balloons) a sponge in the shape of the word “something.” He laughed for days thinking about the simplicity of this silly prop created for clowns. Not long after he’d purchased a box of somethings, he realized he didn’t have a gift for a housewarming party. In a pinch, the magician and balloon artist grabbed one and brought his host “something for the new house.” The reaction was outstanding and it was the hit of the party. He knew right then that he was going to give everybody “something” when they got a new house…when they had a baby…in fact, one year, everyone got a little “something” in their stockings for Christmas!

In an effort to share the fun and get this wonderful idea into the hands of more people, Reid decided to make a cookie cutter in the shape of “something.” Calling on his friend, fellow magician, and founder of Teach By Magic– Brian South, who he says is “one of the most creative people I know”, South immediately wanted to be a part of what he figured could really be “something” big! The two made a cookie cutter and then quickly realized that a silicon bake form would be even more versatile, and they also knew they had to include book of creative ideas and recipes that could be used with the mold. So–reaching out to friends and family for help, and the help of dozens of other new friends who shared their amazing ideas–they compiled the SOMETHING book with 365 ways to use…well, SOMETHING that they hope will create smiles for years to come!

Truly versatile in his talents, “Something” is not the first thing to bring John Reid notoriety, however.  Having dazzled and enchanted audiences for over 20 years with his sensational balloon displays and live magic performances, Reid has traveled from trade shows and conventions to Disney and even The White House…where he has been the President’s balloon twister of choice for their 4th of July celebrations for the past 5 years!! Having broken the World Record for the biggest balloon sculpture built by a single person at the 2014 Salt Lake City Comic Con with the Transformers inspired “Poptimus Prime”, Reid and his Epic Balloons are some of the most visually delighting spectacles to ever be created. Often being called on to teach other balloon twisters and judge balloon sculpting contests, he’s also known for his dazzling balloon dresses and couture designs which were recently featured in Vegas Magazine. John has made over 200 and counting for fashion shows, celebrities, and even a wedding dress! As a magician, he’s been able to delight audiences with his comedy magic show combining laughs with fantastic tricks that engage kids through audience participation.

The SOMETHING mold is made out of food-grade silicone, is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe (up to 400°F)! With recipes that include homemade fudge, classic cake, homemade breads, homemade oatmeal, the homemade bath bomb and homemade soap for relaxation and bathing, chocolate chip SOMETHING, and even bird-feeder and homemade dog treat SOMETHING’s, there’s a SOMETHING for every occasion!

With so much of SOMETHING to offer, Reid and South have come up with the perfect individual or gift idea that’s ideal for this upcoming Valentine’s Day, and also year-round!
