Owltainment Founders Mingda Dong and Yuanyuan Chen Invited to Participate in Annual Award Celebration of The Chinese Cultural Foundation

Aspiring NYU Graduates Dedicated to Bridging the Gap Between U.S. and Chinese Film Industries Will Present Clip of their Production “Enduring Legacy – China Story”

New York, NY (December, 2016) — Having been very busy as of late helping to produce films in both China and the United States–like their recent feature “Generals of the Yang Family” (in partnership between Tencent and China’s Deadwood Studio)–NY based film company Owltainment was recently invited by Elizabeth B. Wang, President of the Chinese Cultural Foundation, to participate in this year’s Annual Award Celebration of the Chinese Cultural Foundation on Wednesday, December 14th at Harvard Club of New York City (35 W 44th St, New York, NY 10036)! The company will be premiering a clip from their newest production “Enduring Legacy – China Story” among a cavalcade of attendees including Chairman of the Chinese Cultural Foundation Maurice R. Greenberg along with 2016 Honorees John A. Catsimatidis and China Construction America Chairman Ning Yuan.

Owltainment was founded by Yuanyuan Chen and Mingda Dong, two New York University students who decided to use their creative talents to–among many others–help create daring and unique new concepts. The company uses innovative ideas such as cell phone filmmaking, showing others with or without a film production background how to share their stories with the “camera” in their pocket. In addition to this creative concept, Owltainment also produces features and documentaries with regular cameras, teaming up with specialists. And while filmmaking has been a hot topic in both the U.S. and China for many years, Owltainment is continuing to help bring the two industries closer together.

With a versatile approach, helping to introduce American film scholars to China and hosting lectures and seminars for Chinese students and filmmakers, the company has been taking a head-on approach to film education. As film festival organizers they continually host, support, and implement activities (like the Honor Festival) for Film Festivals both in the U.S. and China.

The Chinese Cultural Foundation is a New York based 501(C)(3) philanthropic organization, and its mission is to promote and share the understanding of Chinese culture in the U.S. and around the world.  CCF provides the highest levels of Chinese culture to the global community and is an important cultural platform to bring together Chinese and other global world leaders. Since its founding in 2003, CCF has organized a series of cultural and educational programs at many prestigious global gatherings, including the First World Cultural Summit at the Palace of Versailles in France, the World Economic Forum – China Business Summit in Beijing, the Institutional Investor – China Investment Forum in New York City, the China – U.S. Business Forum at the Great Hall of the People, and special events at the United Nations, the National Arts Club, the Harvard Club, Bank of China, Citibank, and other cultural, business, government and academic venues throughout the world.

Owltainment Advances In Mission to Connect Chinese and American Film Industries; Partners With Tencent to Produce Unique Portrayal of “Generals of the Yang Family”

Based On Historical Stories, “Generals of the Yang Family” Is A Collection Of Chinese Folklore, Plays, And Novels About A Military Family From The Earlier Years Of Imperial China’s Song Dynasty

New York, NY (September, 2016) — Earlier this month, the start-up film company, Owltainment, officially partnered with Tencent and Deadwood Studio (based in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province) to help produce a  “Generals of the Yang Family” film.

Set in the Song Dynasty during the 5th year (980) of the region of Emperor Taizu of Song, the story follows a general’s son, Yanzhao Yang, and his journey to save his father and his home country with the help of his friends and lover. The story will be portrayed by “Cosers;” Japanese and Chinese youth who dress up like animation characters, and are known for emulating not just the costumes but the roles of the characters themselves. Cosers are very popular and have massive amounts of followers and fans in China, making them a perfect fit for a refreshingly new and original representation of the classic story.

Viewers Can Expect to Find Exclusive Video Content, an Eclectic Mix of Music, Comedy, Motivation, Performance/Interviews of Academy and Grammy Award Winners, and Much More Madness!

July, 2016 (New York, NY) — As a new breed of media stars continue to rise from the frontier of the Internet, the YouTube generation continues to spend countless hours searching online for all their entertainment needs.

A chance encounter on a classified ad site brought together two creative minds; KJ Franklin, a New York City Talent Agent/Music Publisher, and CJ Spears, a Toronto Songwriter/Video Editor, and together they created VideoGlutton.com. They also had the YouTube urge, but wanted to take a different approach. VideoGlutton.com has videotaped exclusive, unique performances and interviews with multi-platinum performers at concert venues in NYC, Chicago, and Toronto, as well as in apartments and even in a celebrity’s NYC office conference room! It proves that moving out of the house and onto the streets of the cities can produce something quite different than an average YouTube video.

Their first idea was to create American iDeal, an American iDoL type of talent competition. In 2010, they contacted two Academy and Grammy Award winners who had hit songs on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. One of the songs written never made it into the film, and VideoGlutton.com was given permission to find two sets of duet singers to perform this song. One of the singers they chose was Scott Hoying, a recent Texas high school graduate. He arrived at a small NYC recording studio with the other singers and sang his part of the duet. Fast forward to today, and Scott, with his new group PENTATONIX, won two Consecutive Grammy Awards! This video performance is just one of many such exciting stories that have come about from VideoGlutton.com.

VideoGlutton.com also secured a most sought after videotape session with Timothy B. Schmit of The Eagles. After contacting his management company on several occasions, they finally agreed to the session, indicating firmly that Timothy would not be performing and that it would just be an interview. However, with a bit of “Glutton” coaxing throughout the interview, Schmit obliged and performed a song, which is seen on VideoGlutton.com.

Since then, VideoGlutton.com has videotaped many national touring stand-up comedians, as well as promising new performers, and regularly showcases them on their site. Many of the comedians’ rants and stand-up routines are videotaped in unique spaces: the back seat of Minivans, Parks, and other unpredictable places. Some of the comedians are now appearing on the late night national TV show circuit.

Music Supervisors are now coming to VideoGlutton.com as a source for finding and placing original songs for use in films, TV series, commercials, and more.

VideoGlutton.com features such gems as a rare 1975 interview with all members of Fleetwood Mac, as well as in-depth interviews with staff photographers of the Fillmore East and Rolling Stone Magazine. This includes their stories, along with many iconic photos of Woodstock and beyond.

VideoGlutton.com is not just producing pre-recorded video content. Visit them on their VideoGlutton Facebook page, as they will be producing Live Video Streaming, featuring a fun mix of music, comedy performances, and interviews.

Besides being an entertainment driven production, VideoGlutton.com advocates for the Dangers of Distracted Texting – #bTXTsmart – and will be partnering with foundations, individuals, and entertainers who support this important public safety initiative, as well as supporting the victims of related tragedies. VideoGlutton.com showcases Public Service Messages from an eclectic mix, including Boston College women hockey players, as well as several women standup comedians reinforcing the #bTXTsmart message. The #bTXTsmart Motivation + Music School Tour will be available Fall 2016.

Gold Coast International Film Festival Very First on Long Island to Screen Award Winning Feature “Life, Animated” Wednesday, July 6th

Inspiring Film from Academy Award-Winning Director Tells the Story of a Boy with Autism’s Unique Journey Towards Communication

June, 2016 (Great Neck, NY) — With the Gold Coast International Film Festival’s Summer Furman Film Series in full swing, the coming-of-age tale from Director Roger Ross Williams (God Loves Uganda, Undercover Boss) Life, Animated is set to make its Long Island premiere on Wednesday, July 6th at Bow Tie Squire Cinemas (115 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck)!

Date: Wednesday, July 6, 2016

Time: 7:30pm

Location: Bow Tie Squire Cinemas (115 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck)

Directed by Academy Award Winner Roger Ross Williams

2016 / USA / 91 min. / Color

From Academy Award® winning director Roger Ross Williams, LIFE, ANIMATED is the inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films. This emotional coming-of-age story follows Owen as he graduates to adulthood and takes his first steps toward independence. The subject of his father Ron Suskind’s New York Times bestseller, Owen was a thriving three year old who suddenly and inexplicably went silent – and for years after remained unable to connect with other people or to convey his thoughts, feelings or desires.

Over time, through repeated viewings of Disney classics like THE LITTLE MERMAID and THE LION KING, Owen found useful tools to help him to understand complex social cues and to reconnect with the world around him.

LIFE, ANIMATED evocatively interweaves classic Disney sequences with verite scenes from Owen’s life in order to explore how his identification and empathy for characters like Simba, Jafar, and Ariel gave him a means to understand his feelings and allowed him to interpret reality.  Beautiful, original animations offer rich insights into Owen’s fruitful dialogue with the Disney oeuvre as he imagines himself heroically facing adversity as a member in a tribe of sidekicks. Owen’s story is a moving testament to the many ways in which stories can serve as a means of persevering through the dark times, leading us all toward the light.
