Mark Newman Signs Distribution Deal with WBA Records as He Gets Ready to Hit The Paramount Stage in Huntington Saturday, June 22nd

The Label Welcome’s His Mix of Americana, Blues, and Roots Music to Their Already Stellar Roster Which Includes The John Oates Band, Michael Londra, and The Little River Band

As he gets ready to take the stage at The Paramount (370 New York Ave, Huntington, NY 11743) opening for The Weight Band – Featuring Members of The Band & The Levon Helm Band on Saturday, June 22nd – singer/songwriter and guitarist Mark Newman will have plenty to celebrate. Having recently signed a distribution deal with Nashville-based record label WBA Records, he’ll soon be releasing his third LP “Empirical Truth”, and just hit at #11 on the Reverbnation Singer/Songwriter Charts for NY!

A New York native, Mark Newman’s musical prowess has taken him around the world several times over, playing with an eclectic mix of noted musical talents from Sting to Elvis Costello, and Travis Tritt as well as his own solo work. A multi stringsman, Mark has mastered electric/acoustic/lap steel guitar as well as the mandolin and dobro, and with a voice reminiscent of many rock and blues men before him- it has the familiarity of an old friend yet the power and soul of many of today’s rock, soul, folk and R&B icons. For over five years, Newman and fellow songwriter Naomi Margolin have run the “Music From the Hive”  Singer/Songwriter Series, and for the past three years- “The Original Music Series” for bands, in an attempt to keep original music alive on Long Island.

Although Newman has played a ton of exciting solo and full-band showcases–notably Delbert McClinton at Highline Ballroom just last month and Les Dudek at My Father’s Place at the Roslyn Hotel, The Paramount in Huntington opening for The Doobie Brothers, The Space at Westbury opening for the one and only Don Felder and David Bromberg on separate occasions, The Blue Note in Tokyo, Japan, and NYC’s Legendary Bitter End–he has also worked as sideman to so many soul, blues, and rock greats of our time like John Oates (Hall and Oates), Jim McCarty (The Yardbirds), Willy DeVille (Mink DeVille), Sam The Sham, Bobby Whitlock (Derek and the Dominos) and Sam Moore (Sam & Dave)!

Past releases include 2010’s “Walls of Jericho” filled with intricate guitar work and mixed with a plethora of sounds from hard rock to a lighter more Dylanesque folk tinge, and 2015’s  “Brussels” – a live acoustic-driven EP that packs a bluesy punch reminiscent of Clapton’s “Unplugged” album through both the guitar work and raw vocal power. His latest LP “Empirical Truth” is due later this year.

Songwriter Tommy Botz’s Story of Redemption and Helping Others Heal Through Music Rings True in New Country Single “Teddy Bear”

Locked Up In an Ohio Penitentiary, He Helped A Fellow Inmate Grieve Through Song. Now That Single and His Powerful Journey Come to Light

From his battle with alcoholism and living on the street to nearly 15 yrs of sobriety and finally realizing his dream to record his music – Songwriter Tommy Botz’s journey is one of hardship, compassion, and redemption. And through that journey has shined a heartbreaking yet beautiful ballad in “Teddy Bear”.

The powerful country song sang from the point of view of a grieving mother through the stunning work of a female vocalist Logan Wells is one that truly hit home for Tommy Botz, who wrote it for a fellow inmate while locked up in an Ohio penitentiary. “He knew that I wrote songs and came to my cell in tears one night because he just found out that his little girl had passed away” Says Botz, “His wife was losing her mind questioning her faith and he asked if i could write something for his daughter’s’ memory.”. That night he penned “Teddy Bear”, and though having never had children of his own he simply wrote from the heart. Quoting the great country singer-songwriter Hank Williams Sr., he says he believed “I hold the pen and GOD writes the words” which he hoped would help heal the pain of loss.

LISTEN: “Teddy Bear” via Music Radio Promotions

In recent reviews, Vents Magazine has said “The real treasure to be sought after in this track is its sterling lyrical content, the substance of which is derived from our songwriter’s exploration of his own relationship with youth, the concept of growing older and our own mortality, as well as a contemplative look at what it means to find wisdom in age.”. Indie Pulse has even called it “A moving, evocative country anthem in an era that has been plagued with inauthenticity and uninspired fodder from the Nashville establishment.”.

Tommy Botz has come a long way. Now sober for 14 ½ yrs, he’s lived in a halfway house after having “crawled through the doors on May 3rd 2004 of The Ed Keating Center a homeless drunk with nowhere to go”. There he met a kind old man named Jack Mulhall who told him that if he followed some direction he would never have to live like that again. “I wasn’t always a homeless drunk. I had dreams and goals like every young man has. I always loved country and gospel music.” says Botz, whose early interest lead him to become the lead singer in two bands – The Chevells and The Caesars 5 early in his music career, winning a Battle of the Bands and winding up with an RCA recording contract. But after the loss of their guitar player and their contract being pulled, Botz’s drinking got worse and soon penitentiaries became a way of life.

From broken marriages to lost jobs, no car, and no licence – living to drink and drinking to live became his routine. Finally, with several years of sobriety and working under his belt  – he made the decision to go for his dream and finally record some of the over 200+ songs he had written over the years.

One night while I was praying I heard in my heart – go for you dream and I will put someone in your life who believes in your music”, and after contacting Ante Up Studios owner Michael Seifert, the two began a collaboration that would become his 6-song EP “Family and Friends”.

Now, with “Teddy Bear” continuing to garner rave reviews and fans listening in on his incredible journey from the street to penning thoughtful and inspiring music – Tommy Botz story is certainly one of inspiration.

With Her New Single and Video “Suicide Love” Out Now, She’ll Get Ready to Head to the West Coast to Perform at The World’s Largest Event For The Music Products, Pro Audio and Event Tech Industry

Following her latest video release “Suicide Love” being hailed as “…thought-provoking and provocative” (The Daily Listening) and a “captivating vocal performance” (Wonky Sensitive) and much more – Singer/Songwriter Vaeda Black is getting ready to pack her bags and head West for a performance at the 2019 NAMM Show on Saturday, January 26th at 4:00PM on the NAMM Pioneer Pro Audio Arena Plaza Stage!

On her excitement for the show, Black says “I’m looking forward to performing in front of a crowd of complete strangers! I love getting feedback from new listeners”. Along with this being her first trip to California, she’s grateful to her bandmates for pushing her to continually get her music out there. “My music director/pianist James works in the industry and got me to apply for the spot. I’m so grateful for everything he and my band do for me. The guys are all psyched to be at NAMM” she says with a laugh “Everyone should come with an open mind and expect a ton of rhythmic flailing on my part (if you don’t understand what I mean by that, you probably haven’t seen me perform. Let’s just say I can’t dance)”.

The performance will feature Black on vocals along with her band which includes James Sajeva (Music Director/Keys), Eddie Matthews (Bass), and Andrew Harts (Drums) – all seasoned pros straight from the NYC music scene.

With the release of her latest single, “Suicide Love,” Vaeda Black takes the juxtaposition of two seemingly opposite topics and weaves them together to create a dark love story that illustrates the idea of being vulnerable and “showing yourself to another person and letting them love you.”

She says, “It actually started with a text message from my ex-boyfriend while we were together probably about a year ago. I don’t remember exactly what we were talking about, but he wrote ‘that’s called suicide, love.’ Something about those two words next to each other really struck me; they’re so different. I kept thinking it would be such an interesting way to express love, passion and deep wanting, so I wrote a song around it.” The combination of those two distinct feelings gives the song a truly unique sound and style.

Despite the title, and it’s darker atmosphere, Black says “it’s really a love song. Being vulnerable is hard for a lot of people, but I want this song to represent the good things that come from showing yourself to another person and letting them love you.” In an age where many artists stick to upbeat, pop love tunes, Black isn’t afraid to shake up stereotypes and create a sound distinctly her own, something “Suicide Love” showcases perfectly. With her blend of indie, alternative, and a little soul, listening to her songs comes as a refreshing break from some of the more mainstream styles.
